Author Guidelines

Welcome to the author guidelines for the Journal of Smart Technologies and Engineering Analytics (JSTEA). These guidelines provide detailed information to help you prepare and submit your manuscript for publication consideration. Please read these instructions carefully before submission to ensure your manuscript complies with our requirements.

1. Submission Policy

JSTEA welcomes submissions of original, unpublished research that contributes significantly to the fields of smart technologies and engineering analytics. Manuscripts should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, nor should they have been previously published in any form (except as part of a thesis or dissertation).

1.1. Types of Contributions

We accept the following types of submissions:

  • Research Articles: Original research presenting significant findings (5,000-8,000 words)
  • Review Articles: Comprehensive surveys of current research in specific areas (6,000-10,000 words)
  • Short Communications: Brief reports of timely and significant findings (2,000-3,000 words)
  • Case Studies: Detailed analyses of specific applications or implementations (4,000-6,000 words)

1.2. Preprint Policy

Submission of manuscripts that have been made available as preprints on recognized servers (e.g., arXiv, SSRN) is permitted. However, authors must disclose this information during submission.

2. Manuscript Preparation

All submissions must adhere to the journal's formatting standards. Authors should download and use the official Manuscript Template provided by the journal.

2.1. Manuscript Structure

Each manuscript should include the following components in order:

  1. Title Page: Title, author names and affiliations, corresponding author details
  2. Abstract: 150-250 words summarizing the study's purpose, methods, results, and conclusions
  3. Keywords: 3-6 relevant terms for indexing
  4. Introduction: Context, problem statement, literature review, and research objectives
  5. Methods/Methodology: Detailed description of research design, data collection, and analysis
  6. Results: Clear presentation of findings with appropriate tables and figures
  7. Discussion: Interpretation of results, implications, and relation to existing literature
  8. Conclusion: Summary of key findings, limitations, and future research directions
  9. References: Complete list of cited works
  10. Appendices: Supplementary material (if applicable)

2.2. Formatting Requirements

  • Use 12-point Times New Roman font with 1.5 line spacing
  • Set margins to 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
  • Number all pages consecutively in the bottom right corner
  • Use SI units for all measurements
  • Employ headings and subheadings to organize content clearly

2.3. Tables and Figures

  • All tables and figures should be cited in the text
  • Provide clear, descriptive titles and captions
  • Ensure all figures have sufficient resolution (minimum 300 dpi)
  • Submit figures as separate files in TIFF, EPS, or high-quality JPEG format
  • Tables should be editable (not images)

3. File Format and Submission

All submissions must be made in editable file formats: .doc or .docx only. PDF submissions will not be accepted for initial review.

3.1. Required Files

Prepare the following files for submission:

  • Main Manuscript: Complete paper without author identifiers (for blind review)
  • Title Page: Separate file with author details and affiliations
  • Cover Letter: Brief explanation of the manuscript's significance
  • Figures: Individual high-resolution files (if not embedded)
  • Supplementary Materials: Additional datasets, code, or multimedia (if applicable)

4. Ethical Considerations

JSTEA is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. Authors must adhere to the following principles:

4.1. Authorship Criteria

All listed authors should meet the following criteria:

  • Substantial contributions to conception, design, execution, or interpretation
  • Drafting or critically revising the manuscript
  • Approval of the final version to be published
  • Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work

Corresponding authors must ensure all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript.

4.2. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, personal, or professional relationships that could be perceived as influencing the research. This includes:

  • Funding sources and their role in the research
  • Employment or advisory positions
  • Patent applications or registrations
  • Personal relationships that may affect objectivity

4.3. Research Integrity

Research involving human subjects must include evidence of approval by an appropriate ethics committee. For studies involving animals, authors must confirm adherence to relevant institutional and national guidelines for animal care and use.

4.4. Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to share research data supporting their publications. This may include:

  • Depositing data in recognized repositories
  • Including data availability statements in manuscripts
  • Providing access to code or algorithms used in analyses

5. Plagiarism Policy

JSTEA maintains a strict policy against plagiarism. All submissions are screened using Crossref Similarity Check (powered by iThenticate). Manuscripts must maintain a similarity index of below 10%, excluding properly cited references.

5.1. Types of Plagiarism

The journal considers the following as plagiarism:

  • Verbatim Copying: Reproducing text without quotation marks and proper citation
  • Substantial Copying: Reproducing significant portions of another work without attribution
  • Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rephrasing another's work without proper credit
  • Self-Plagiarism: Republishing one's own previously published work without acknowledgment

5.2. Consequences of Plagiarism

Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism will be:

  • Immediately rejected
  • The authors' institution may be notified in cases of severe plagiarism
  • Authors may be prohibited from submitting to the journal for a specified period

6. Review and Decision Process

JSTEA employs a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality and integrity of published research.

6.1. Review Timeline

Assignment to appropriate section editor and reviewers

6.2. Possible Decisions

Decision Description
Accept Manuscript accepted for publication with minor or no revisions
Minor Revisions Acceptance contingent on addressing specific minor concerns
Major Revisions Manuscript requires substantial changes before reconsideration
Reject and Resubmit Manuscript requires fundamental changes; may be resubmitted as new submission
Reject Manuscript not suitable for publication in JSTEA

6.3. Responding to Reviews

When submitting a revised manuscript, authors must include:

  • A point-by-point response to all reviewer comments
  • A highlighted version of the manuscript showing changes made
  • A clean version of the revised manuscript

7. Publication Process

Once accepted, manuscripts proceed through the following publication stages:

7.1. Production

  • Copyediting for language, style, and formatting
  • Typesetting and layout design
  • Proof generation and author review

7.2. Publication Fees

JSTEA charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) to cover publication costs. Current fees and waiver policies are available on our Fee Policy page.

7.3. Copyright and Licensing

Upon acceptance, authors transfer copyright to JSTEA. Published articles are made available under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, allowing unrestricted use with proper attribution.

8. Submission Checklist

Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure you have completed the following:

  • Manuscript follows the journal's template and formatting guidelines
  • All required sections are included and properly structured
  • References are complete and formatted in APA style
  • Figures and tables are properly labeled and of high quality
  • Plagiarism check completed (similarity index below 10%)
  • Ethical considerations addressed (human/animal subjects, conflicts of interest)
  • Cover letter prepared explaining the manuscript's significance
  • All authors have approved the final version
